“Why are some doing well?”
“Will I be okay?”
“Will I be successful at what I’m doing?”
Those are some of the bigger questions people are asking themselves these days. It all comes down to Maslow’s Hierarchy of Needs in which one of the basic needs is to be safe.
Many people are scared right now. Sometimes the fear can be debilitating. It shows up in trouble sleeping, feeling anxious, or venting anger. Still others are using avoidance, pulling the covers over their heads to escape what feels like a nightmare.
These types of reactions to the pandemic and our changing world are understandable. Yet you don’t want them to consume you or take your power away.
There are five critical factors required to succeed during any crisis.
Let me share what successful people do.
#1. Remain grounded. What this means, in essence, is that you have a strong foundation within yourself. Regardless of what happens, you know that you will be safe. Getting grounded can be accomplished most easily by creating a daily routine to follow. Include in your routine things to make you feel strong, confident, powerful, excited, energized, and creative. This philosophy is from my days as a senior flight attendant when I told passengers to put the “oxygen mask on themselves first.” During uncertainty, a routine is key to remaining grounded and feeling stable.
#2. Dig deep to bring out their best. It’s tempting right now to look for the easy way. However, if you want growth (meaning you want to thrive, not merely survive), you must be willing to do the hard work. Your fears and doubts are running amuck, and it’s imperative to work through them. Underneath them is your brilliance, and that’s where the gold is. Keep digging to unearth those treasures!
#3. Get out of their Comfort Zone and take action. During an economic downturn, there is often a misconception that it’s a waste of time, energy, or money to take action. Let go of that belief. However, make sure the action you take is “smart” action, not just action that makes you busy. I can’t begin to tell you how many people I have talked to over the years who told me they were busy all day yet didn’t get the desired results.
#4. Assume 100% responsibility for what they have in their lives. Stop blaming others or situations for what you have or don’t have in your life. You have made all of those choices to get where you are. I know this is tough love. Assuming complete responsibility will also give you the power to create exactly what you want in your life. That’s where you will find your power.
#5. Give that which they want to receive. Everything is energy. If you want to feel more love, give love. Looking for more connections, reach out to connect with others. Want to make more money? Spend money with others. After all, if you’re holding on tightly to your money because of the fear of running out, you will attract others with the same belief. That stops the money from flowing as it is meant to do.
#6. BONUS. Start acting like the person you want to become. Develop the mindset of the brilliant, amazing, awesome, wonderful, fabulous, fantastic, expert, energetic, authentic, magnetic person you want to be. You’ll be amazed at the abundance you attract into your life.
Hey, I know none of these things are easy to do, especially now. But they are critical for you to thrive and succeed. Otherwise, you’ll continue to live your life from a place of fear, inadequacy, uncertainty, and smallness. That’s not why you’re here.
