One of the keys to an entrepreneur’s business success (or lack of) is being able to sell their products and services.  Most entrepreneurs start  9440121_stheir business because they are passionate about something and want to share their gift and expertise with others.   They don’t realize they have to sell.

No sales, no money…see where the problem lies?

Here are a few serious questions for you:

1.  How often do you pick up the telephone to call a prospective client?

2.  Does the thought of making that call leave you feeling uncomfortable or excited?

3.  Do you email prospective clients more often than you call them?

4.  When you do pick up the telephone, do you avoid the “sales” conversation and instead “chit-chat” (a Boston expression meaning talking about superficial stuff)

5.  Are you getting enough “yeses” to make the money you desire?

Most people who start their own businesses don’t come from a sales-style background.  Even if they did, it’s one thing to sell someone else’s products/services and quite another to sell yourself.  As a result, the idea of a “sales call” will feel really unnatural and uncomfortable.

If you’re like most of the entrepreneurs I’ve worked with, you might even have a few of these fears pop-up, too:

1.  Why should someone work with me?

2.  I could NEVER charge that much?

3.  What if I can’t deliver what I promised?

4.  What if “they” say “no”?

5.  I’m not good enough, smart enough, educated enough, experienced enough, old enough, young enough, etc….. (you get the drift)…

What often happens is all of those fears and doubts keep entrepreneurs from making those sales calls.  The other reason entrepreneurs stay stuck is simply not knowing how to make the calls – what to say and how to get that “yes”.

If you don’t move through those blocks, your income will not grow.  It’s the truth.

I want to give you a challenge to help you get more sales and some of you may actually enjoy it 🙂  It might feel a bit uncomfortable in the beginning and that’s because it’s something new for you.   For the next two weeks, call one person each day.  For example, it could be someone you’ve met at a networking event, a past client or former co-worker.   Simply, call and check-in with them.  Make it a 5 minute call – no longer.  This action step is to get you used to picking up the phone.
