There were huge parallels in the upstairs and downstairs characters this week. Lord Grantham mentioned frequently that he was “flabbergasted” while his counterpart, Mr. Carson, would say he was “speechless”. Both of these heads of household were having a hard time with change. Poor Mr. Carson couldn’t even fathom an electric toaster in last week’s episode.
I think Lady Grantham said it best, when she said about her husband, Lord Grantham, that he “makes decisions on values that have no relevance anymore”. Lord Grantham is so stuck in certain patterns that he is not open to any new ideas of how to improve the properties he owns. (Do you ever get close minded and not want to hear other’s suggestions?)
Many entrepreneurs are doing the same thing as they make decisions in their business. This is because of old beliefs that they have about themselves or the world around them. Many that were taught to them when they were children.
Spend a few minutes and think about what you were told about money when you were a child. Some of the more common expressions were:
- Money doesn’t grow on trees
- You have to work hard to make a lot of money
- Rich people are evil
- Or, perhaps, like Lord Grantham you believe “A fool and his money are soon parted. I’ve been parted from my money, so, I’m a fool”
If you believe any of those sayings (even if that belief is buried deep down in your subconscious) it will always hold you back from all of the financial success you want.
After you have your list of what money expressions you were taught, take the next step and start clearing those beliefs out. Then replace those beliefs with more positive ones, such as, “I always have whatever I need and want”.
My favorite (and fastest way) of changing mindset is through a technique that I’m an expert in, called “tapping”. I would highly recommend “tapping” or else use a technique that you are comfortable with.
Don’t be like Mr. Carson who refuses to acknowledge change, when he said, “I am who I am”.
