I always thought that to be successful meant acquiring more along the way.  That’s how I believed success was defined.  A bigger house, fancier car, designer clothes and so on.  It’s how I felt I should live my life because everyone I knew who was successful was doing precisely that.  I was on the treadmill of “keeping up with the Joneses” without even realizing it.

With the recent deaths of both of my parents, there have been a lot of transitions in my life.   I’ve become much more of a deliberate creator by focusing on actions that bring me more joy and abundance in my life.

Who would have thought that having less would make me more successful?  Yet, that’s exactly what it has done in both my professional and personal life.

Not only have I cleared out the material and physical clutter, but I’ve also let go of the emotional clutter.  I let go of the  feeling I had to do certain things because others did them.  In essence, I released the “should.”

When my car lease was up, and I was tempted to lease a luxury car, I changed my mind at the last minute (after having a sleepless night and realizing it wasn’t aligned with my vision).  The luxury car required a lot of maintenance.  My 4-legged girl, Cali, does too.  I’d rather spend my extra time on Cali than on a car!  So, I chose a great new vehicle with all my required options without the fancy logo.  This decision was never regretted or second-guessed.

I let go of a lot of the excessive activities and resources in my business.  They were no longer relevant to my journey.

Traveling lighter has meant taking action more deliberately on my journey.  Doing less has brought me more.  Each day, I notice changes and continue to be delighted with my journey.  I value the things in my life more than I have in the past.  It’s so much fun to go to the theatre and get caught up in the experience and fabulous talent instead of worrying about what everyone else is doing.  And my profitability is up.  It’s all good.

Honestly, I never expected minimalism to affect and change my life the way it has. I thought it would be solely decluttering and donating stuff.  I’ve been taking what I’ve learned on the subject, combined it with my wisdom and teachings, and brought it to the next level.  It’s also allowed me to clear the clutter from my head, focus and do what’s most important to me, and release the rest. I’ve changed the word from “minimalism” to “simplicity” for a better fit for me.

So, I’m challenging you as you move forward on your journey.  Are you deliberately creating or are you taking action based on the “should?”

There’s a big difference in how this works because one direction will cause a lot of stress and overwhelm while the other feels more exciting, energetic and the “right fit.”
