(Labor Day Sale) Time to put your "big girl" (or boy) pants on

I’ve been holding workshops since my business was one month old. In fact, the first meeting space I rented was above a basketball court but it only cost me $16. Can you imagine trying to teach and “tap”, with the “thump, thump, thump” of basketballs being bounced on the court my several dozen enthusiastic teenage boys on the floor below? Yikes! But, that didn’t stop me, I continued to hold workshops on a regular basis and my attendee size continued to grow.

Last year, wanting to up-level my business, I knew the next step was to hold a multi-day live event. Live events are one of the absolute best ways to build your business. I took a course and then was egged on by a good friend who told me it was time to put my “big girl” pants on and get into action. So, I checked out hotels, booked the space and proceeded to market my event. I was doing everything I was supposed to.

Checking things off my list left and right.

Attendees signing up. Check.

Guest presenters. Check

Beautiful space to hold my event. Check.

Helpers at my event. Check.

Sponsors. Check.

Excited about the event? Hmmm….lots of nervousness actually. Maybe I shouldn’t do this? It seemed a lot safer and easier to leave things the way they are instead of trying something new.

Thank goodness I listened to the smarter, wiser voice inside of me and talked to my coach about how I was feeling. She told me that by doing this event, no matter what the results were, was a huge step for my business and for me. So, off I went to work with on clearing out all of the blocks in my way of being excited. Every time I hit a block, I had my coach there to guide me through it.

My annual 2-day live Ultimate Success Solutions 2013 event is in a few weeks. I’ve gone into this experience very differently than last year. I’ve been excited since day one. Actually, I cannot wait. This year will be twice as big and twice as good. Woo hoo! I am so honored and thrilled to have a room filled with like-minded entrepreneurs!

Are feeling some of that fear about doing something new in your business…maybe your knees are shaking, you’re getting headaches, not sleeping well, eating too much, or feeling a lot of stress?

Here are a few suggestions that worked for me:

1) Have a coach or mentor who’s been through this experience guide you. They’ll help you avoid potholes and road blocks making the journey that much easier

2) Clear out the negative beliefs in your way. Really and truly, you can’t do this deep work yourself. Invest in working with an expert who will quickly and easily help you make these changes. I love to use “tapping” as I’m an expert in it and it’s the fastest way to make changes.

3) Go experience what others have done so you can learn. I love to take others’ courses and go to others’ events, not only to learn and connect, but for ideas for my own products and events. After all, how can you hold a live event if you haven’t been to very many?

4) Hold a vision of how you want that experience to turn out. How many people? What do you look like? What are they doing? What are you saying? This should be deeply ingrained in your brain.

Bottom line is that any discomfort is part of growth. If there were no growing pains, there would be no change. Ask yourself if you want to stay exactly where you are or if you want to move forward? Also, understand it doesn’t have to be as uncomfortable as you might have experienced in the past – or that you might fear it will be. By following my suggestions, you’ll find the path a lot easier to be on.
