When I worked in corporate that was one of my favorite expressions. There were some days that I felt as if someone was pulling a belt really tight around my waist and I couldn’t breathe. I used to wake up every night around 3:00 am worrying about all I had to do at work the upcoming day.
In fact, one of the guys I worked with would sit in his workstation (cubicle) all day and “sigh”. When I first heard him making this noise, I asked him if he was ok. His response was that he came from a long line of “sighers” 🙂
Sighing in itself isn’t bad for you. It actually moves your energy around and since we’re all made of energy, that’s a good thing.
However, there’s a much better way of handling stress.
I am so pleased (yes, I could jump up and down pleased) that my stress level is much more under control since I started my own business. I sleep beautifully each and every night. Do I still have hours or even days where things aren’t going as planned – absolutely! The difference is I have learned a much better way of handling stress and I want to share some of those tips with you.
Quick fixes:
1) Be present. This is really huge. There’s a quote by Eckhart Tolle (The Power of Now) which states: “ Your life situation may be full of problems – most life situations are – but find out if you have any problem at this moment. Not tomorrow or in ten minutes, but now. Do you have a problem now? “
When you answer that question for yourself, the answer usually is “no”. Once you know that, it becomes easier to let some stress and anxiety go.
2) Take a few deep breaths when you are feeling anxious. Breathe in really slowly and let the breath out really slowly. That will slow your mind down and allow you to shift your energy.
Long Term Fix:
3) My favorite and automatic “go to” technique to reduce stress is the technique called “tapping”. I’ve never seen a technique that works as powerfully and quickly to release negative thoughts and replace them with positive ones. I highly recommend you find a technique you really like and then work with a highly experienced and certified practitioner (such as me) to really do some deep clearing work.
When you’re feeling stressed or anxious about something, it typically isn’t just about the issue at hand. Most times, it is directly related to a core issue or belief that you have had for a very long time. This has to do with your fears of safety. Personally, I love, love, love to help my clients clear out the old fears. Ultimately, you do want to clear them out and be free from them forever.

This is so true. I have a looming issue – and recently came to the conclusion that it did me absolutely no good to brood about what is going to happen later. After realizing that… I am much happier…
That is so awesome to hear, Meredith. Our mindset is very powerful 🙂
I like Eckhart Tolle’s quot it opened my eyes about the idea we really worry to much about the future to the point that we forget our present moment, and as the Master says in KUNG Fu Panda “I like Animated movies :D” yesterday is a history, tomorrow is a mystery but today is a gift that’s why they call it Present. 🙂
