Everyone is always asking me how to “charge what they’re worth.”  It’s more than raising your prices; it’s how you show up in the world.   All of your actions are a demonstration to others of what you believe your value is.  

I was recently at a meeting where one of the female participants kept saying “Can I add something” before she’d share her point of view.  After, the fourth time she said this, I wanted to say…”Just speak. You don’t need our permission”.  

When I was younger, and I’d ask my brother if I can ask him a question, he’d always say “You just did,” and that was the end of the conversation.

I learned my lesson early.  Women often ask if they can ask.  

It’s time to give yourself permission to go for it.  What is the worst that will happen?  Someone will say “no.”  If they say “no,” say “next.”  I learned that concept from best-selling author Jack Canfield when he was a guest on my radio show several times.  

Today, think about what you can want and just ask.  

Don’t ask to ask.  

Just do it!  Just like the Nike commercials.  

On the flip side, when you receive a compliment, accept it.  Often women will say something like“oh, this old thing” or “I like yours, too.”  They’re so uncomfortable accepting this gift (hint: a compliment is a gift so if you deny it by saying “oh, this old thing,” you’re saying you don’t like the gift.  If you say “I like yours, too” it’s as if you’re giving the gift back to them.   Stop doing that and say “thank you” (and for a bonus: smile!).

You can do this.  Go!
