This Lasted Longer Than Most Marriages

I recently said goodbye to my almost 17-year-old girl, Cali. She was the absolute best girl in the whole, entire world. Our motto for the last few years was to keep Cali “happy, healthy and comfortable”. I used to call her my “heart outside my body.” I miss her and will carry her in my heart forever.

There are so many lessons I learned from Cali. The most important was giving and receiving of unconditional love. Cali showered me with that special love every single day. Having Cali in my life taught me not to be afraid to show my heart.

To honor Cali’s memory, I’ve created The Forever Cali Project. This is my final gift to her (and her gift to me – I can feel her guiding me). Its purpose is to support other parents of senior, special-need, or chronically ill dogs, including providing bereavement guidance for those grieving from loss. There are also free resources.
