10048815_sThis is a very important topic.  The way to get more clients is to get in front of them and talk to them.  It sounds pretty basic, right?  But, a lot of entrepreneurs miss the boat on this and then complain that “no one” is signing up to work with them.

How are you coming across to the other person?  Are you genuine, an expert…or acting like a used car salesperson?

When you have your own business, besides being a service provider you are also a “salesperson”.  You must be to get clients, make money and grow your business.

First of all, do you know your conversion rate?  The average statistics for conversion are 1 out of 3 people you have a sales conversion call with will sign up to work for you.

Coming from a very strong marketing/business development background, my conversion rate is typically closer to 90%.  Here are a few tips from my own experience I’d like to share with you to help you raise your conversion rate:

1.  Sure, you work at home, are you dressed confidently when you talk to your potential client on the phone?  A lot of entrepreneurs think that a home office is a license to dress super casually (t-shirt and sweats with hair in a ponytail).  The problem is that if you’re sloppy that brings your energy level down.  How can you talk to someone about your high-end program if you’re wearing grungy clothes?  When you’re dressed super-casual, you’re not in the same energy or focus as you have otherwise.  I’m not saying to wear a suit while you’re at home, but I am saying to dress the part.  Pretend that person is actually in front of you – and dress accordingly.

2.  You have 2 ears and 1 mouth.  That’s twice as much listening power as speaking equipment.  Use them accordingly and based on that ratio.  Don’t go to 18812087_sthe conversation pre-judging or assuming what your potential client needs.  Most people do the opposite and talk, talk, talk and never really hear the person at the other end.  Most make assumptions of what the person at the other end needs and wants.  Listen, listen…and listen.

3.  This last tip is really huge.  Protect your energy when you talk to the other person.   You could be saying all of the right things and the person may still not say “yes”.  It’s important to not take it personally.  Instead, you want to be able to say “next” and move on to talk to the next person.  If you take it personally, you can easily go down that downward spiral of feeling bad and negativity.  If you go to that place of negativity, you’ll definitely not sign the next person you speak to will definitely not sign up!

Now, go out and get more clients!

The sales conversion call can be a make it or break it for an entrepreneur’s business survival.   If you’ve got at least at 1 out of 3 conversion rate, congratulations!
