The biggest reason you don’t have what you want is because you don’t have the “right” vision of what you want your business to look like.   At first glance, this might sound basic or like a “no-brainer” to you.  But, if it was that easy for you to do, you would have all of the success you want. NOW.   Right?

visionLet me explain what I mean through these 5 types of entrepreneurs that I’ve worked with:

1) Dizzy Danielle” never took the time to write out what she wants success to look like.  She doesn’t really think about what they want their life to look like?  How many clients and how does she want to work with them?  What kind of hours does she want to work?  Travel or no travel?  On stage?   Joint venture partnerships or working solo?   Danielle really lacks the clarity and focus of what success means.  Since she doesn’t know where she wants to end up, she can’t expect to get there.   Danielle is overwhelmed and stressed out all of the time.  Too much on her plate and too much of the “shiny object syndrome” to make real headway.   There’s a strong possibility her business won’t make it.

2)  “Should-do Sharon” wrote out her vision statement but included in it what she thinks everyone else wants her to do.   stressedShe sees other people speaking on stage and assumes she should, too.   Sharon sees other entrepreneurs hosting telesummits and decides she should, too.   All of her friends are writing a book so that’s what she’s planning to do.  She really isn’t in touch with what she wants and what would make her happy.  Her vision is full of “shoulds” and “expectations” and not about what is really in her heart of hearts.  As a result, she’s starting to resenting parts of her business.   She’s gained 20 pounds that she can’t take off, isn’t sleeping well, and getting chronic headaches.  She wants off of this treadmill but doesn’t know how.

3) “Play- It-Small Sara” does have a vision of what success means to her.   But, sadly,  it’s a really small vision.   She’s afraid to really dream and get herself out in a really big way.  It’s much more comfortable for her to stay in her comfort zone.  She resists taking action to up-level her business, even though she says what she wants most of all is to help more people.   She’ll name every excuse in the book of why she can’t do something.  Sara frequently has the “good month/bad month” syndrome.   She’ll get a taste of success and then take 2 steps backwards.  This unpredictable business cycle is leaving her frustrated, disappointed and afraid to take the big leap.  All of these setbacks are whittling away at her self-confidence as she stops believing in herself.

4) “Fraudulent Frances” feels like she is living a lie.  She does have a vision statement but deep down doesn’t really believe she’ll ever reach it If you were to meet her, you’d see that she is well groomed and often wearing the latest fashions.  Her nails are done and her makeup is perfect.  On the surface she has is all-together, but underneath all of the gloss is a scared little girl who doesn’t believe she really deserves this success or has much to offer.  She often asks herself, “Why would people pay to work with me?  By not believing in herself, she repels any success that could possibly happen to her.  Frances is often a huge over-giver and finds it difficult to set boundaries with her clients, leaving her working nights and weekends to keep up with the demands.
happy entrepreneur5) “Successful Sandra” knows what she wants and has a clearly defined vision statement.  Truthfully, she doesn’t always know how it will happen.  But she can see and taste her success long before it physically manifests itself.  She’s happy and enjoying the journey.  Sandra’s able to take risks and wants to invest in herself to get the outcome she desires and deserves.   She’s strong, determined, and believes in herself.  She has all that she wants and lives her life that way.    She knows when she wants something new, she will find a way to manifest that in her life.
