If a tree falls in the forest and no one is there, does it still make a sound?      tree

That conundrum has been pondered by many wise people for a very long time.  It has been debated, disagreed and argued about over and over again.   Is there even an answer?

It made me think of a new question…

If entrepreneur isn’t making any money, is that person still an entrepreneur?

I know so many entrepreneurs who are so very good at what they do…some you might even say are “exceptional” yet they are making virtually very little money.  I’m sure you know many who fit into this category.

The IRS doesn’t consider you having a business unless you’re making money.  They give you a few years and then it’s considered a hobby.  For some, it becomes a very expensive hobby.  So, does that now make that entrepreneur who’s not making very much money a hobbyist?  A hobbyist isn’t a business owner.  A hobbyist is someone who has a passion for something.  A collector of things.

Where do you fit into all of this?  Are you an entrepreneur with a so-so business …a hobbyist?  Or are you a business owner where you have income coming in regularly that you can count on?

When I heard that about being a “hobbyist” several years ago, that made me good and mad as I never wanted to be in that category.  Yet, I know so many that stay put in a certain low level of income for years.  A level that is much lower than they actually deserve.  Why is that?

Here are some of the common reasons for lack of desired income:

1.  They don’t know how to build a business

2.  They’ve tried and failed so many times they’ve given up on themselves and their dreams

3.  Speaking of dreams, they’re not dreaming big enough.

4.  They have so many blocks and beliefs about what they actually do and don’t deserve

5.  They’re too busy looking at what everyone else is doing (either competitively or jealously) instead of focusing in on their own business

6.  They’re not taking responsibility for their own success

7.  They’re not charging what they’re worth

8.  I could go on and on and on and on….Well, you get the picture.

The reason I felt it was so important to write about this is that when an entrepreneur plays it small, they’re not helping all of the people they’re meant to help.  That is a shame!

If you’re stuck and don’t know how to play a bigger game, let’s connect for a Money Breakthrough Session.  I love, love, love working with really amazingly talented people to help them up-level their business.  I’m opening up only 4 spots on my calendar this month and it’s complimentary (usually $400).  Let’s figure out where you want to go, where you’re stuck and what you need to do to move forward.  Here’s how to apply for one of those spots.   http://tinyurl.com/moneysession
