This past 4^th of July, I spent the holiday with my sister and her family on Cape Cod.  We did a lot of fun activities, such as, going to the parade, cookouts, boating, power walks, and baseball games.  Also, saw my sister’s neighbors – the actor,  Harry Connick, Jr and his family.

Interestingly enough, my sister is housing a baseball player for the summer.  I had the opportunity to talk to him and his friends over the course of a few days.   

Here’s a few facts about baseball that I just learned:

 

1)    Cape Cod has one of the most respected baseball leagues in the U.S. so this is a BIG DEAL for these guys to be recruited to play for a Cape Cod team. 

2)    Over 40% of all of the guys on the teams, get recruited to play “pro” (play for a professional team).   Scouts are often at their games watching their every move.

3)    Success in baseball is all about the mindset (sound familiar?) – they told me that without me even asking.  I have heard that our success as solopreneurs is 85-95% based on us having the right mindset.  

So, you’re probably wondering why I am writing about baseball when you are a solopreneur.  Here’s why:

1)    These players spend a lot of time waiting and waiting for the opportunity to play.  They see their teammates playing, while they spend a lot of time sitting on the bench.  This team had about 15 pitchers, imagine having to wait for your turn if you’re a pitcher!   It can be many games before you would get to pitch again. 

2)    The players spend a lot of time doing things that keep their energy level up and positive.  The players I met were up early in the morning doing yoga on the beach, played a lot of tennis (by the way, you don’t want to be on the receiving end when they serve to you…it’s going about 80 mph!), boating and, of course, eating.

3)    They coach little children who want to become baseball players when they “grow-up”.  In fact, the Ice Cream Shoppe in town, offers all of the baseballs players (who are considered “celebrities”)  free ice cream all summer long, with the following conditions:

1. They must tip the servers
2. They must be nice to the children who ask for their autographs
3. When they become famous, they will send a pair of tickets to the Shoppe owner 🙂 

4)    The players are extremely patient, while, at the same time, very focused on their goals (wouldn’t you be if the payoff would be having your dreams come true???  Imagine having all of the financial success and the freedom that goes along with it… the fame and glory…all of the pleasure you are giving so many people who are able to watch you….the pride knowing you have accomplished what you wanted?).  Wait a minute, that’s exactly what I help my clients do with their businesses   😀 

Here are Three Success Tips to help you towards reaching your goal:

1)    Have a really clear vision of what you want and what it looks like.  Most solopreneurs do not have a clear vision of what they want their success to look like.  If you don’t know what you want, how can you get there?  Spend time to actually write it down or visualize it.  What would your days look like?  Who would you be working with?  How would you spend your free time? 

2)    After you’ve become clear in what you want, make a list of the blocks in your way of you having this success.   List all of the reasons why you don’t currently have the success you want.  You’ll probably have quite a few, some may beliefs you have about yourself (core beliefs) and some may have to do with the world around you (limited beliefs).  Don’t judge yourself for what you have on the list.
