Most solopreneurs are busy this time of year wrapping up their marketing plan for 2013 and along with that comes lots of New Year’s Resolutions. Things like:
“I’m going to do more with social media”
“I’m going to blog/send my ezine regularly”
“I’m going to hire the resources I need”
“I’m going to write the book I’ve been planning on”
“I’m going to do a joint venture project”
“I’m going to go to/hold more workshops”
“I’m going to make a lot more money this year”
Do any of those resolutions sound familiar? The intention to do these things is great, but the problem is most of you won’t do them this year. You may start out energized and excited as it’s a new year, but before you know it, it will be spring, then summer and then fall, and you still won’t have done them.
Think about all of the people (and maybe you’re included) who have lost the same 20 pounds over and over again, year after year, and are never able to keep that weight off. They had resolutions saying they would lose and keep off 20 pounds, but they can’t do it. Why is that? It’s your mindset – your subconscious beliefs about yourself and about the world. (Many experts say that your mindset is 90-95% responsible for your success). Do any of these beliefs sound familiar?
“I can’t do it”
“I can’t stick with it”
“What if I fail?”
“Do I deserve this success?”
“What will I have to give up to have this?”
“It’s too hard/difficult”
“I don’t know how to do it/I’m not good at it”
“Maybe this success was just a “fluke” and I can’t do it again (maybe I’m a “fraud”)”
“I don’t have the time/money to do what I want to do”
These negative beliefs are so powerful that they hold you back from really getting what you want. You may start on the path of success, but just like the eternal dieter who never keeps those 20 pounds off, you’ll never maintain your success (or weight) until you clear out those negative beliefs and replace them with positive ones. And, then, take the right actions steps to move forward.
Here are 3 Success Tips to help make you more successful with your New Year’s Resolutions:
1). Personally, I don’t believe in waiting until January 1 for resolutions. I believe you can set intentions at any time of the year. It’s important to take action when the time is right.
2). Post your resolutions somewhere that you will see them frequently. It will help keep you focused on them and be a constant reminder. Perhaps, place them by your computer, on your bathroom mirror, in your purse/wallet or in your car.
3). Write down your resolutions and share them with someone in your inner circle. By taking that action, it gives your resolutions more validity. Also, it helps hold you accountable for these actions. Some of you may have someone to help you with that, but if not, if the resources you’ve been using haven’t helped you achieve what you wanted to, then you want to work with an expert, such as myself.
