I sponsored the Massachusetts Conference for Women recently. It was their 10th anniversary, they sold out in 3 weeks and had over 10,000 attendees. Hilary Clinton, Tory Burch and Lupita Nyong’o spoke and inspired us. Did you know that over 1200 women start their own businesses every day?
Most of the attendees were women in the corporate world. My background. Only a small percentage was entrepreneurs. What was interesting is that I could tell who was who by their handbags. The corporate women wore their Vuitton bags like a badge of honor. The bigger the better. It was their prize and reward for years of service. Day in and day out in the corporate grind.
Interestingly enough, most of the women I spoke to said they “wished” they could be an entrepreneur.
It’s a trade off. A Vuitton bag or creating a business and life that you love.
It made me wonder, what do heart-centered entrepreneurs carry or hold as their badge of honor for their life style choices. More importantly, do heart-centered entrepreneurs make sure that they take really good care of themselves each and every day?
In the corporate world, it’s all about what you can buy yourself for your hard work.
What are you doing as an entrepreneur to honor yourself for your hard work?
Perhaps, it’s a vacation? Yoga classes or a retreat? Or maybe it is a Vuitton bag?
I’ve hired a personal trainer at the my health club. I found (truthfully) it was too easy to not make the time for me to get to the gym. I’d make excuses about other things that needed to be done. I wasn’t taking as good of care as me as I could. Now, I have scheduled time for myself. I block it off on the calendar and it’s time just for me. Not checking email, no working – it’s all about doing something good for me.
I want to challenge you to do something good for yourself on a weekly basis. It’s less about what you buy yourself and more about how you treat yourself.
What do you choose?

Well Kate I try to honor my health everyday as that is what I do. I also educate women on this very subject every day. I find it sad that so few women both corporate and entrepreneurial put their health on the back burner. Most women think that they will have many tomorrow’s to worry or catch up on their health care needs and unfortunately that is not the case most of the time. One’s health has to be a today priority and women need to put more of their mind, body, soul, and money into it. The glow of good skin, the ticking of a healthy heart, the strength of great bones, and the physic of an exercised body should be the badge of honor that we are running after. The gift of health is the best gift we can give ourselves and our loved ones. Blessings Michele
Hi Katie, I coach business women not on their business but on helping them make themselves the best they can be so their business will be more successful. I attempt to live by this everyday and I too have hired a personal trainer. I love your work. Phyllis
