If everyone knows about “goal setting” than why do only 10% of people write their goals down on paper? Why do 90% of all people who write their goals fail?
What I’ve discovered from my work as a Mindset, Money & Marketing Expert, is that most entrepreneurs talk a good game about setting goals, but most rarely do it. I know it seems like something so basic to do. Then why do so many, not do it?
I believe it’s because of these TWO reasons:
- They don’t believe it will come true
- They don’t know how to do it
The problem is that if you don’t start with writing your goals (or as I prefer to call it – a Vision Statement) then you are lacking direction in your business (and life).
If you don’t know where you’re going, how will you get there?
I’ve had a lot of opportunities come to me lately and one of the biggest things that helps keep me sane is asking myself how something fits into my vision statement of where I want to go. When I forget to ask myself that, I tend to go into a state of confusion, which isn’t very good for me. But, by bringing myself back to basics, I’m able to get the clarity of what to say “yes” to and what to say “no” to. Once I do that, I feel a huge weight lifted off of my shoulders and things start to click.
There are 9 types of mistakes that people make about setting goals:
- Not setting goals
- Setting a goal so small that it isn’t exciting so they lose interest in it
- Setting a goal so big that they have too many blocks in the way to ever get there
- Comparing their goals with others’ goals
- Not focusing in on their goals on a daily basis
- Using the wrong verbiage in their goal
- Worrying about the “how”
- Not understanding that they are responsible for creating whatever they desire
- Not believing in themselves
Here’s the thing. You own what you write. You own what you believe. If you don’t believe you can have whatever you want, you won’t get it. It’s that simple. It all starts with you believing you can have whatever you would like. Once you can start to visualize your goal in your mind, then it is already in action. The process has started. But, if you start to have your fears and doubts pop up, then it’s just as if someone unplugged the power as your vision starts to dissipate.
Ultimately, it’s all up to you. I know that’s easier said than done. I had to have lots of help from my coaches and mentors to get on this path. It is worth all of the time, energy, resources and money I invest to get to where I am…and where I continue to move along on my journey.
