On losing my virginity                               20321960_s

I did it.

I went all the way…

It’s always scary to try something new.  So many unknowns.  The fear of looking stupid or awkward – especially around someone more experienced than me.   And, I especially didn’t want to ask any “dumb” sounding questions.  That’s probably why I waited so long.

Ok, I’m not talking about s*x, but I am writing about trying something new.

I remember the first time I used an ATM machine.  When they first came out, I figured they were a fad and I was afraid it wouldn’t work right- that there would be a mistake.  So instead, for a very long time, I only made deposits and withdrawals directly at the bank.  That meant I had to take the time to find a branch and go when it was open.  A big inconvenience.  When I finally got tired of how long it took me for to do this task, I opened myself up to something new and finally used the ATM.  And, it worked.

Then there were all of the times that I only shopped online when I could speak to a live rep, because I didn’t trust the online ordering.  When the truth is that there could just as easily be a mistake or error that way, too.   Until I realized the benefit, I would spend a lot longer ordering something, when I could have done it online myself in minutes.

Or, maybe this will resonate with you.  I saw another coach do something online, which I admired and I figured I was smart enough to figure it out myself.  I bombed.  It bombed.  I mean, I’m glad I tried but I didn’t know what went on behind the scenes and I spent a lot of time trying to figure things out and still didn’t get the results I really wanted.  Once I hired a coach, everything was unveiled – the door was unlocked and I got the results I wanted.  Must faster and much easier.

What I learned from this is that when I delay in moving forward, it actually slows me down in getting the results I really want.

Now, I’m not always slow at trying new things.  I was an early adaptor of the car navigation system.  People made fun of me for having bought a car with that technology.  But, the truth is, I no longer have to open (or in past years “roll down”) my window…, or stop at gas stations to ask for directions.  I punch in where I’m going, the system knows my current location and it takes me there.  Fast.  Even if I make a wrong turn, it will re-calculate and get me back on path.

Next time, you’re trying to figure something out, it might be time for you to take the plunge and get the expertise needed to get you on path.  Otherwise, you might be driving around in circles and never getting close to your destination.
