I’m writing this article on Saturday – and, if you’re like me, much of your attention this weekend has been on what has happened in Newtown, CT.  This is a horrible tragedy and my heart goes out to everyone there.  I’m a “favorite Aunt” and I can’t imagine how someone could harm those innocent children.   I don’t watch television during the day, but today is an exception…the news in on in the background.

We’re just a few weeks before the start of 2013.  Hopefully, you had a wonderful year in your business in 2012 as I did.  Whether or not you did, you want to make sure you’re putting together a plan for next year so you get the results you want.  The reason this is so important as it helps you be strategic about your upcoming year and avoid the “good month- bad month” syndrome.

If you had a great year, you want to insure that you not only maintain what you did but that you increase what you did.

As logical as writing your marketing plan sounds, very often, negative thoughts can get in the way of you doing this.  One of my private clients had a great 2012, but she was afraid that might have been a “one-time wonder”.   Others have told me:

  • I’m afraid it will be too difficult to keep up…
  • I’m already overwhelmed, how can I do anymore…
  • It will never happen to me again…
  • I don’t have time to do this…

Perhaps, some of those mindset issues are popping up for you and getting in the way of you up-leveling your business.

If you were disappointed in your business’s performance, than it’s equally as critical to put together your plan, as you want to avoid what happened previously.  Here are some fears that some solopreneurs have:

  • Why bother doing this…I’ll just fail again
  • This is too hard for me to do…
  • I don’t know how to do this…
  • I don’t have time to do this…

Here are a few Success Tips to get you on your way:

1.  Set aside a time (several hours) and block it off on your calendar to work on your marketing plan.   This sounds like such a simple step, but so many people won’t even take this first step.

2.  The easiest way of starting your plan, is to have a 12- month calendar and schedule in your activities that you want to work on during the year.  This would include any launches, workshops, etc…

3.  It’s also important to clear out any negative beliefs that are in your way as that will stop you from completing your marketing plan and/or implementing it.   The technique I use both personally and with my clients, is “tapping”.  It’s the fastest way I know of changing old beliefs and thoughts that are in the way.

4.  Even though, I’ve done my own marketing plans for years (both when I was working in the corporate world and with my own business), I still set up a coaching session to review this with my coach.  You know that old expression “you can’t see the tip of your nose” and I very much want to get her opinion on this.  Things are always better with a second, experienced set of eyes.   If you’d like help creating your marketing plan for 2013, let’s set up a time to talk.   Here’s the link to get started: http://tinyurl.com/discoveryKate
