For most entrepreneurs, the fastest path to cash is to make sales calls. Then why don’t most entrepreneurs do that?
Earlier in the year, one of the coaching groups I belong to held a contest for all 170 members. We were given the challenge to make outgoing sales calls every day for the net 60 days. Sounds easy enough, right? Then why at the end of the 60 days, were there only 3 of us on stage who had completed the challenge. Not only did I complete the challenge, I made a lot of money.
Why didn’t the others finish? There was no financial cost involved. They didn’t have to hire a team, buy additional resources or take a class. All they had to do was to pick up the phone and call. Technically, they had no excuses.
Here are the top 10 reasons you’re not picking up your phone:
1) Who will I call? (Answer: Start with anybody and everybody)
2) What will I say? (Answer: Start with “hello”. If you’re a newbie, have a script)
3) What if I’m bothering them? (Answer: They will tell you)
4) People may not like me if I call them? (Answer: Really?? Someone won’t like you because you call them?)
5) What if they don’t answer? (Answer: Call them again)
6) I don’t have time (Answer: Seriously? You don’t have time to pick up the phone?)
7) What if they don’t want what I have to offer? (Answer: They might not be your ideal client. Say “next” and move on)
8) I’m waiting for the perfect offer/product/program before I call. (Answer: You’re going to have to wait a long time if you’re waiting for perfection)
9) I’m waiting until I know exactly what to say. (Answer: Get a coach or practice buddy)
10) The dog ate my phone (Answer: Get a job!)
