11679241_s“I never should have done that.  See, what happened.  I should have just left things the way they were…now, look where I am.   This always happens.”

Ever said that to yourself?

Maybe you’ve heard of this place?  It’s scary, frightening and often doesn’t seem like there is a way out.

I call it the “Freak-Out Zone”.

This is the place where usually you’ll:

  • Live in a place with lots of drama

          “Why is life so unfair?”

  •  Go into victim mode

It’s always everyone else’s fault

You’re just not good (smart, young, old, experienced, etc.) enough

The timing just isn’t right

But, there are warnings before you go there:

  • You’ll procrastinate

Maybe you’ll decide to clean and organize

You’ll get on the phone and call friends

  • Get “bright, shiny object syndrome”

There are so many other really cool things you could be doing

  • You’ll basically come up with 101 reasons of why you shouldn’t do what you were planning on doing

The symptoms you might get are:

  • You’ll overeat
  • Not sleep (or sleep too much)
  • Either get angry or withdraw
  • Get aches and pains in your body (or teeth grinding, headaches…)
  • Make yourself right and everyone else wrong
  • Find friends who will agree with you so you can justify your actions
  • Stop taking action towards the direction you had planned

As a result, you are probably further away from your desired goal than ever before.

Here’s the deal.  Every one of us goes through this.  Often.

The problem is that most people are afraid of the “Freak-Out Zone” and they retreat.  While the best course of action is to get support to move through it.

As you’ve heard me say, I’m a dentist’s daughter and believe in preventive care.  So, next time this happens.  Be aware.  Get the support you need to move through this to get to the other side.  That’s where the growth happens.

Be Brilliant,
