Little kids get what they want. They can be relentless until they get it. They don’t care or worry about the obstacles that might be in the way, they just go for it. If most entrepreneurs would be as focused as little kids are, they’d end up getting a whole lot more clients, opportunities, successes and money.
Let me share a recent story which will demonstrate exactly what I’m talking about.
Why was this boy screaming? He had been yelling for the last 5 minutes and I had work to do. So, I went to my balcony to find out what was going on. He had been calling for his mother to no avail. I asked if he needed help and he nodded “yes”.
I went outside to find out what the heck was going on.
Would you believe this little boy had brought his “pet” python snake to the condominium pool and it had gotten caught in the drain. He didn’t know what to do. He didn’t want his pet to die but had no idea how to get him out. That’s why he was yelling.
It was after hours, but I found our superintendent who came to the rescue. Through several maneuvers was able to rescue the missing snake who was actually still alive.
Now the other part of the story is that this little boy was very clear that he didn’t want his father to know about this because he would get in lots of trouble. I know, boys will be boys. Never mind the fact that he was breaking rules and probably shouldn’t have been out by the pool himself – with or without his pet. He needed something done and he got what he wanted. He was relentless until his problem was resolved.
How many times have you had a problem in your business and you just quit? Maybe you didn’t know how to solve the problem? Maybe you were afraid of looking foolish? Maybe you didn’t want to bother someone? It could be a hundred different reasons. The point is that you probably stopped way too early and therefore, didn’t get the client you wanted…, the opportunity you wanted…, the money you wanted. Another dream drifting away from you.
That’s not how it should be for you.
You deserve to reach your goals.
Next time you’re in a situation like this, before you let your snake go down the drain, think about how a little child would never stop until they got what they wanted. Remember, how you felt when you wanted something so badly you would be relentless until you got it.
Go for it!
Be Brilliant,
Kate
