When you were growing up did you get rewarded for being a good little girl or boy? Maybe you got a gold star, a treat, or extra special acknowledgment for being so good? That’s what I experienced and I believe it was pretty common for most of my friends too.For many of us, perfection became the goal. But, now as an adult, is being “perfect” setting you up to succeed or fail?

So many adults, especially women, hold on to the big core belief that they need to be perfect. And they wear that belief like a badge of honor. It affects them in their personal and work relationships, their career and especially, as leaders. Today, I’m not getting into that whole conversation about body image and looking like Barbie dolls, which has turned many industries into multi-billion dollar industries…I’m not even going to tell you about the time I tried to surprise my boyfriend with a homemade lemon meringue pie that came out so badly that I threw it away before he could see any evidence of it.

But rather, I’m talking about how it affects you in your daily life and stops you from living your ideal life.

Let’s say, you’re working on a project. But because it doesn’t seem perfect, you hesitate releasing it into the world. You’re afraid (and afraid being the keyword) that somewhere along the line there is a mistake or that something will need to be changed. So, you hold off and you hold off. Until, ultimately, you either lose interest, something else comes along, or someone else beats you to it. All of these are really lousy end results. This mindset and behavior are making your dreams, desires and goals that much harder to reach and less attainable.

What if instead, you could learn to say to yourself, “That’s good enough. And, good enough

… is good enough.”

Seriously, who cares if you have a “typo”. Most things can be fixed.

Today. Try it.

Be “perfectly imperfect” or “imperfectly perfect”, whatever you want to call it. I believe that the only thing truly perfect is nature. News flash. I’m not perfect and neither are you. No matter how hard any of us try to be.

P.S. Your core beliefs are slowing you down from reaching your dreams each and every day. You’re aware of some of these, but most are hidden deep down. If you’re serious about moving forward and hiring a mentor, let’s have a conversation. Contact my team at Info@KateBeeders.com
